Jackson speaks with legendary British photographer Gered Mankowitz in this episode of Guess That Record! Having been active since the 1960s, Gered has been one of the most prolific music photographers of his generation, with many of his photos becoming iconic album covers. Gered has worked with The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Kate Bush, Phil Collins, and many more. In the episode, Jackson and Gered review a selection of his photos to learn about the stories behind them, and discuss how photography techniques have changed over the years.

Our first episode of 2024 has the one and only Dweezil Zappa joining Jackson on Guess That Record! The son of legendary musician Frank Zappa, Dweezil followed in his footsteps to become a master guitarist and composer in his own right, releasing six studio albums over the course of his career. He's also carried on the legacy of his father's music by fronting the successful group Zappa Plays Zappa. In this episode, Jackson and Dweezil talk about how he learned guitar under the tutelage of Eddie Van Halen, Frank Zappa's greatest hits, and how he managed to earn a part in an Arnold Schwarzenegger film.

In this episode, Jackson interviews Nathan Raudnitz, the lead singer and guitarist of the UK based band Speedvark. Founded in 1986 by Ben Raudnitz and Pedro Flatt, the duo has expanded their lineup in recent years by including Ben's kids Marcus, Mig, and Nathan. In this quick chat, Jackson and Nathan discuss Speedvark's story, the band's upcoming single "Children of the Revolution, and the impact of T-Rex and glam rock on the British music scene.

Guess That Record reaches double digits! In this tenth episode of the podcast, Jackson interviews Al Staehely. Born and raised in Texas, Al began performing music in the late 60s. After moving to LA, he joined the band Spirit where he served as the bassist and lead vocalist from 1971-1973. He later became an entertainment lawyer, representing musicians such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Johnny Nash. During the episode, Jackson and Al talk about his new album, Al's experiences backing up artists like Chuck Berry and Keith Moon, and how he's juggled music and law.

Guess That Record returns with the first episode of 2023, on the one year anniversary of our very first episode! For Episode 9, Jackson interviews Susan Rogers. Susan served as the staff engineer for Prince from 1983-1987, working on some of the biggest albums of Prince's career including Purple Rain, Around the World in a Day, Parade, and Sign O the Times. She also worked with artists like David Byrne, Tevin Campbell, and the Barenaked Ladies (producing their hit album Stunt). After leaving the music business, she became a professor at the Berklee College of Music. In this episode, Jackson and Susan speak about how she got her start in music, and what it was like to work with Prince.

As a founding member of Toto, David wrote the band's biggest songs including Hold the Line, Rosanna, and the all-time classic Africa (a song in which David also handles the lead vocal duties). Outside of his work with Toto, David has been a prolific session player having played on albums such as Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs, and Michael Jackson's Thriller. In this episode, Jackson and David talk about how his father's music career inspired him, how songs like Africa continue to be relevant, and what it's like to work with famous musicians.

Jackson Reed is the host of Guess That Record, and is a musician based in Calgary, Alberta. His most recent single "Dangerous Lover," gave him the opportunity to work with legendary drummer Kenny Aronoff, who is featured on the song. Jackson has performed live across Alberta, and in the United States.

Jackson, 24, is a recent graduate of the Journalism program at Mount Royal University, and views Guess That Record as a perfect way to combine his journalistic skills with his passion for music.
